SHALALA helps Canadian service businesses keep their records organised, their accounts reconciled and their monthly bookkeeping moving.
TYPICAL CLIENTS INCLUDE
A focused service by design.
Every engagement begins with a clear scope, agreed responsibilities and pricing confirmed in writing.
What to expect:
We review your business needs, records and transaction volume to confirm the appropriate scope and fee before work begins.
We do not currently provide:
- Income tax return preparation
- Tax planning or tax advice
- Assurance
- Audits or reviews
- Compilation engagements
- Legal advice
- CFO or strategic advisory services
- Professional accounting opinions
If your needs fall outside our model, we would rather tell you before you become a client.
Books behind?
We’ll bring them
up to date.
Catch-up bookkeeping for fundamentally workable files.
For Canadian service businesses using QuickBooks Online when recent bookkeeping is several weeks or months behind, but the underlying records are still workable.
- Routine transactions not yet recorded
- Bank and credit-card reconciliations behind
- GST/HST bookkeeping records to bring current
- Books that need to be current before monthly service begins
Files requiring major historical reconstruction, unresolved prior-year issues, or accounting or tax interpretation fall outside SHALALA’s bookkeeping scope.
Monthly bookkeeping, clearly priced.
Fixed pricing for businesses that fit our model.
Exceptions, reconciliations and unusual transactions are reviewed before the bookkeeping period is completed.
SHALALA ESSENTIAL
Up to 2 bank / credit-card accounts.
SHALALA GROWTH
Up to 3 bank / credit-card accounts.
SHALALA ESTABLISHED
Up to 5 bank / credit-card accounts.
You maintain and pay for your own QuickBooks Online subscription. It is separate from SHALALA’s monthly fee. SHALALA works in your QBO file through accountant access, so you retain your records and continuity.
Support that fits your business.
Choose from paid bookkeeping meetings, supported software integration setup, additional account or payment-processor reconciliation, and priority month-end close. Each service is agreed in writing before work begins.

Included in every plan
- Transaction categorization and routine bookkeeping adjustments
- Bank and credit-card reconciliations
- GST/HST recording and tracking, where applicable
- Monthly bookkeeping close and QBO-generated Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports
- Written bookkeeping questions and support
- Organized, accountant-ready year-end records
Growth and Established include one scheduled 15-minute bookkeeping check-in each quarter, within the agreed bookkeeping scope.
Established also accommodates more active customer invoice and payment recording (A/R bookkeeping), vendor bill and payment recording (A/P bookkeeping), payroll journal entries from client-supplied payroll-provider reports, and additional transaction complexity and exceptions within the agreed bookkeeping scope.
GST/HST recording and tracking are included where applicable. GST/HST return preparation and filing, income tax returns, tax advice and payroll processing are outside the bookkeeping service. Your accountant can continue handling tax and year-end work. Read the full service scope →
Pricing assumes complete and timely information from the client. If otherwise workable books are behind, Catch-Up Bookkeeping may be required before recurring monthly service begins. Files requiring major historical reconstruction, unresolved prior-year issues, or accounting or tax interpretation fall outside SHALALA’s bookkeeping scope.

Who handles your bookkeeping.
SHALALA manages the ongoing bookkeeping process in QuickBooks Online, using technology where it improves efficiency while keeping human responsibility for reconciliations, exceptions and month-end completion.
Routine bookkeeping.
We manage routine categorization, matching and bookkeeping workflows so you do not have to supervise the process yourself.
Review before month-end completion.
Exceptions, reconciliations and unusual transactions are reviewed before the bookkeeping period is completed.
Responsibility for the work.
SHALALA remains responsible for the bookkeeping workflow and final review.
Automation may assist with transaction categorization, document extraction, matching, recurring transaction identification, workflow automation and exception identification. AI is used only to support routine bookkeeping workflows. It does not provide tax advice, accounting opinions, assurance or financial advice.
Keep QuickBooks. Keep your accountant.
Lose the bookkeeping workload.
Software can make bookkeeping easier. SHALALA is for business owners who would rather delegate the monthly bookkeeping process while keeping their existing QuickBooks Online file and accountant.
Why keep bookkeeping and tax separate?
Your monthly bookkeeping should stay current throughout the year. SHALALA keeps your QuickBooks records organized, reconciled and up to date. When it is time to file GST/HST or prepare tax returns, you or your accountant can work from books that are already current and organized.
Already using QuickBooks Online? Stay there. No proprietary accounting platform to learn and no unnecessary migration.
Written support, with time to connect.
SHALALA is designed for business owners who prefer efficient asynchronous communication. Questions, document requests and bookkeeping exceptions are handled securely online and in writing.
- Optional free introductory video call
- Quarterly 15-minute check-in included with Growth and Established
- Optional additional bookkeeping meetings
- No telephone support
- No requirement to schedule time with us
Working with us in writing.
- Respond on your schedule.
- Keep a clear written record.
- Avoid unnecessary meetings.
- Spend less time managing your bookkeeper.
Availability for new clients.
SHALALA intentionally maintains a small recurring client roster. We would rather provide consistent bookkeeping to a limited number of businesses than build a high-volume bookkeeping operation.
When recurring capacity is full:
- New clients may join a waitlist
- Catch-Up Bookkeeping may still be accepted for fundamentally workable books that are behind, where capacity allows
- New monthly clients may be paused until capacity becomes available
Your financial information does not belong in a website form.
The public SHALALA Fit Assessment is used only to understand whether your business fits our service model.
Keep sensitive records out of the form.
- No bank statements or banking passwords
- No credit-card numbers or SINs
- No tax documents or payroll records
- No other sensitive financial records
Sensitive bookkeeping documents are requested only after a client is accepted and onboarded using the approved secure bookkeeping workflow.
A few things
worth knowing.
Clear expectations from the start.
Who is SHALALA designed for?
Canadian service businesses using QuickBooks Online with monthly bookkeeping needs: generally up to 300 monthly transactions, five or fewer bank and credit-card accounts, primarily Canadian-dollar activity and no significant inventory.
Do you work with every type of business?
We focus on Canadian service businesses and review each enquiry to confirm whether our bookkeeping service fits your needs.
Can I call you?
You can book a free 15-minute introductory video call. Ongoing support is primarily in writing. Growth and Established include a quarterly 15-minute bookkeeping check-in, and additional meetings are available for a fee. Telephone support is not included. See optional-service pricing.
Do I need QuickBooks Online?
Yes. You maintain and pay for your own QuickBooks Online subscription; it is not included in SHALALA’s fee. SHALALA works in your QBO file through accountant access. You retain your records and can keep your existing accountant. If you use other software, any migration needs and scope are confirmed in writing before work begins.
What if my books require major historical reconstruction?
SHALALA focuses on ongoing monthly bookkeeping and Catch-Up Bookkeeping for books that are fundamentally workable. Files requiring major historical reconstruction, unresolved prior-year issues, or accounting or tax interpretation fall outside our bookkeeping scope and should be handled by the client’s accountant or an appropriate specialist.
Do you prepare tax returns?
No. Income tax return preparation is outside our service scope. We organize accountant-ready bookkeeping records for your tax preparer.
Do you provide tax advice?
No. SHALALA does not provide tax advice or tax planning. GST/HST bookkeeping records are recordkeeping work; questions about tax treatment or obligations should go to your tax adviser.
Do you provide assurance?
No. We do not provide assurance, audits, reviews or compilation engagements. System-generated Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports are outputs of the bookkeeping records and carry no assurance or professional opinion.
Who supervises my bookkeeping?
SHALALA manages the routine bookkeeping process. Exceptions, reconciliations and unusual transactions are reviewed for bookkeeping completeness and consistency before the bookkeeping period is completed. This does not mean every transaction is manually reviewed.
Do I need to supervise bookkeeping software myself?
No. SHALALA manages the ongoing bookkeeping process in QuickBooks Online, including routine bookkeeping, reconciliations, exception follow-up and month-end completion. Technology may support the workflow behind the scenes, but you are not hiring another bookkeeping tool to operate or supervise.
How do I send financial documents?
Sensitive documents are requested securely after acceptance and onboarding through the approved bookkeeping workflow. Never submit bank statements, passwords, credit-card numbers, SINs, tax documents or payroll records through the public website form.
Do I need to attend meetings?
No meeting is required. You can book a free 15-minute introduction. Growth and Established include an optional 15-minute quarterly check-in; additional one-time or monthly 30-minute bookkeeping meetings are available for a fee. Routine questions and updates are handled in writing. See optional-service pricing.
Why do you limit client capacity?
A small recurring roster helps us maintain consistent bookkeeping and manageable workflows. When capacity is full, new monthly clients may join a waitlist. Catch-Up Bookkeeping may still be accepted for fundamentally workable books that are behind, where capacity allows.
What if my business is too complex?
We may decline the engagement or recommend another provider. We would rather tell you that our service is not a fit before you become a client.
